Maja Kozłowska
Born in 1980 in Wrocław, she graduated in Painting (diploma in 2022 in the studio of prof. J. Merkel) and Postgraduate Artistic Disciplines in Architecture (diploma in the studio of prof. S. Kortyka in 2019) at the E. Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. She was raised in Kazimierz Dolny on the Vistula River. Her works are inspired by nature, Vistula landscapes and the far north. She creates abstract landscapes, architectural motifs and video productions. Through the filter of introspection, she analyzes the surrounding reality and processes it in her works, encouraging the viewer to stop in a space of sometimes only apparent peace. Always on a journey - through the world of literature, sounds, distant corners of the world - she often returns to the places closest to her, like the land of childhood.
Artist statement
My works explore the phenomenon of the disappearing ability to communicate, living "next to each other" while the "I," the observer, takes the place of the "I" here and now.
The process of creation is also a return to childhood, to the moment when the world/relationships began to disappoint, giving way to a sense of shame that I'm a human.
The residence, especially when autumn begins and the world falls silent, is an experience that gives a chance to admit many things to myself.
I'm left alone with my thoughts, longing and with my talkativeness.
I start each day by checking the condition of the garden. I open the terrace and listen; my main companions have become robins.
